Francesco Petreni percussion / drums
Drummer, percussionist and composer, has played with many musicians, among whom Marc Johnson, Jonny Griffin, Palle Danielsson, Mal Waldron, Eddie Henderson, Claudio Roditi, Cameron Brown, George Cables, Bill Smith, Tony Scott, Guinga, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, etc., participating in international festivals, and concerts in Cuba and Brazil.
He is on more than sixty recordings also with Enrico Pieranunzi trio, Avishai Cohen, Eddie Henderson, Eddie Wied, David Links, Paolo Fresu, Luca Flores, Ares Tavolazzi, Furio Di Castri, Stefano Bollani, Maria Pia de Vito, Kim Prevost, Bill Solley, Gabriele Mirabassi, Fabrizio Bosso, and brasilian music with Dadi, Marisa Monte, Ivan Lins, Hamilton De Holanda, Barbara Casini, Gilson Silveira, Marivaldo Paim.
He has taken the university degree in Letters and Music History with a published graduation thesis about Max Roach, and in 2008 he took the Superior Conservatory Degree in Jazz, with a new published graduation thesis: “ The Improvvisation in Brasilian Music”.
He composed and arranged for ballets (Motus Dance) chamber music (Conservatory of Livorno) and original compositions for “Carmina Burana in Jazz”.
He has been a teacher and performer at many courses and drum and percussion workshops: Rome, Perugia, Ancona, Gioia Tauro, Catanzaro, Spoleto, Vibo Valentia, Matera, Follonica, Castellarquato, La Spezia, Bari, Izmir [Turkey], Senij, KrK [Croatia], etc).
He is composer and leader of “ SDEONG”, a sextet of percussions, voices and dance.
He is director, arranger and conductor of “Bandao Percussion Orchestra” with which has performed more than 300 concerts, festivals and carnivals (London, Salvador de Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Coburg,Venice, Milan, Viareggio.
Since 2001 he is professor at the International Siena Jazz International Workshops, and he is teacher of Jazz Basic Course and Advanced Jazz Drums Technics e at the Conservatory of Livorno, and since 2010 he he teaches and performs on Global Music Foundation courses and events.
